The tigress made an early morning kill (deer foal) and then regally walked with it to find a suitable secluded place to finish it off. That morning one could sense the primal energy in the air and the feel the web of life of the jungle!
The shot was taken with a Nikon D 3000 body (my 1st and old one) and the Nikkor 70-300mm VR lens. Taken at 220mm; 1/160s - F/10; -0.3 EV; Daylight WB.

Kaustuv,

It seems the image you uploaded is slightly larger than 300kb. The software automatically resizes images that are larger than 300kb and the quality drops. You can resize the image to less than 300kb and upload again.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

Amazing sighting this, seems a deer fawn and surely it may not be enough for this tigress. Not sure if she has cubs to feed and hunted down a fawn.
tfs.

Thanks, the image was taken in the Pench national park. I was very lucky as it was the last trip in the forest and we saw this tigress for close to 90 mns! including the hunt, her eating the fawn, resting and then starting a stalk after seeing 2 jackals. Nov 2010.

A very nice moment captured. Predators will never leave an easy meal in form of a fawn. It may form a small snack for them, however, It is also great that they get immediate food.

For teaching small cubs, a predator may maim the fawn so that the cubs can chase it down and hunt.
