Hi Guys,

Need the ID of this insect. Shot it today morning in Pune.

Have gone for a slightly higher shutter speed to freeze the wings that it was flapping to maintain the balance against gravity. Please critique.

Canon 600D. 55-250mm
Manual Exposure
Spot metering
Shutter Speed 1/640
Aperture 8.0
ISO 800
Focal Length 235mm
Cropped by 51%
Monopod support

Nice for an ISO 800 shot, considering it is cropped 51%. Nice details, especially the eyes. Thinking whether a vertical would suit this better.
This is a Carpenter Bee, Xylocopa auripennis. Unlike many other bees, it leads a solitary life.

Agree with Abhishek, the details look good. Maybe placing it slightly higher in the frame would be good. A vertical composition would also work. Nicely captured. Thanks for sharing.

I like the vertical composition better, but the details on the insect is good in the horizontal frame. You could have probably used a lower ISO to get better details.

Composition wise the vertical is better. In the horizontal, the subject is larger, so one can see better details. Less cropping will help in getting more details. Thanks for sharing.
