Grey Breasted Prinia-Nbr

Spent some time watching this bird in the little breaks from rain you get down here. An interesting repetition is that it lands on reeds in the now submerged fields around the top 1/3rd of the reed and then waits till it bends down with its weight and almost touches the water. Thrice i saw insects take off from a perfectly camouflaged position when the reed is bending down and the bird goes after them. Saw it catch a G hopper that way. Don’t know if this is a common feeding habit (if it is feeding habit in the first place). Has anyone observed this before??

Personally, I like the composition. The eye looks good. But, the image appears a wee bit over exposed on my monitor, so EV +0.3 would have sufficed may be.

Nice. Usually one would go for a composition with the bird positioned lower down, but this seems to work too. Nice eye contact. Great that you could get this with the 250mm (even thought it is cropped). Do post a larger image. Maybe you could pull down the brightness a little.
Nice observation of the behaviour. Do record a video next time. :)

Nice observation Roopak!

I had seen that they sit on the reeds and when the reeds bend they take off and had seen them catch insects. However, I had failed to make this connection between the dipping of the reed, insects leaving their camouflaged positions and getting caught. Logically it is very plausible. If true, it shows their intelligence level. May be some more watching would confirm.
