Photographed this at Bandipur a few months back. It was rainy morning, so the light was quite bad. It was very sudden and no body expected it to charge. I would have liked a higher shutter speed to get a bit more sharpness.
Canon 50D, 100-400mm L IS USM, ISO 400, f4.5, 1/125, full frame, hand held.

The composition is nice. The sharpness seems a bit lacking near the head as you mentioned. The action is well portrayed. Thanks for sharing.

Nice charging pose, composition is fine, however it is unusual for a Gaur to charge humans.

Praveen, this was the first time I saw a Gaur charging. Even the driver and the guide were surprised. So I was not prepared for any action, maybe they are getting irritated by the gypsys and tourists :(.

The mood is evident from the pose. I agree that a higher shutter speed would have been good. However, I won't be comfortable with ISO 800 in the 50D.
Cheers,

Gaur are generally very placid. However, once upset they are unpredictable. These days there are enough factors to upset a well tempered gaur. Tourists in jeep often breach the tolerable distance.
