Elephant portrait

I created the portrait when the elephant charged and stopped near the jeep. It was so close, that I created this portrait.

Canon EOS 1D Mark II, Canon EF 300mm f4 L IS USM, ISO 200, f4, 1/250, full frame image.

Beautiful portrait Sabya.This is a real close up photo.Come out sharp as well.

But Iam wondering why the elephant is looking so calm?!It was charging you and stopped on its track became cool!I dont no whether Sabya has a trick up his sleev to calm down a charging elephant.Please tell us so that we can also try it out!

Nice portrait. The eye contact and the details are nice. I liked the composition. I think Sabyasachi might not moved and retained his calm and quiet, so the elephant too calmed down. Nicely captured. Thanks for sharing.

It was a moment of indecision in its part. When it found that there is no sign of retreating, it paused to think whether to carry on the attack or not. It thought for a moment and then turned and fled. One should remember that I was in a vehicle. If I would have stood on the ground, then as an adversary, I would appeared pretty small. One has to correctly predict the behaviour and quickly decide to whether to flee or not. And that is not easy. Remember that one mistake can be fatal.

Just to add to Sabyasachi's comments on the elephant stopping its charge abruptly, most elephant charges never are completed. The animal, if it feels threatened by a human starts to charge but will on most occassions stop short. Discretion is the better part of valour - in 'Elephantine' terms!!
