Lovely shot and nice caption. Salt water crocodiles have survived through Triassic...Jurassic and Cretaceous periods and have plans to outlive human species in coming years, due to their adaptability.

A rare sighting to see a young one of a crocodile basking. You have captured it nicely. Before I could get any image, it went in the water :(. As you have said earlier, the younger the crocodile, the closer it basks to the water and faster it goes in the water :). This we sighted near the same place where we sighted the Jungle Cat, is that right? Thanks for sharing.

These kids were predictably swift as they had to survive all kinds of predators at this age. Its tail tip is barely out of water, as it is ready to jump back into water at the slightest sight of danger. The overall size of this youngster in relation to its environment also seems to indicate that it is small and alone to fend for itself in this vast landscape.

After boarding the launch at Sajnekhalli Jetty we turned left and proceeded diagonally towards the right bank of Gomdi River as advised by the guide and could see Jungle Cat (s) enjoying the morning sun. Possibly you could take photograph of only one there, the other (always larger, like fish out of net) retreated into the bushes promptly. This baby crocodile was basking on mudflat at much lower elevation close by near the waterline.
Then we went to the left side of Gomdi and could find one more Jungle Cat. Canon 100-400mm is a versatile zoom for photography in the Sundarbans.
