Picus chlorolophus. This is the male of the peninsular subspecies- chlorigaster
Not an easy catch, as luck wud have it I got it from the balcony of my ancestral home on calicut outskirts.

500D , 55-250, 250mm, AE, f5.6, ISO 400, SS 1/250. Cropped image. C&C welcome

Nice to see this rare bird. Good to know that you could sight it in your backyard :). Nice display of habitat. Looks like a mango tree. Nice eye contact. Thanks for sharing.

Great to know that it is from the balcony. The eye contact is nice. There are some highlights in the canopy, which is to be expected. How many species have you noticed in the backyard.

Mind blowing...both the catch & the list ..... I can Imagine how lush green hilly area your ancestral home would be..... please correct my imagination.... Thanks for sharing..
